FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION (FAQ)
DÉBUT COPENHAGEN SKINCARE only chooses suppliers that comply with European regulations for cosmetics. This means that we select the best suppliers both from Denmark and elsewhere in Europe. We do not want to compromise on quality and legislation.
This is a question that comes up quite often, and the short answer is “no”. DÉBUT COPENHAGEN SKINCARE has made an active decision not to be organic, as products with organic ingredients can be just as allergenic as products without organic ingredients.
Sadly, many believe that the way to avoid developing skin allergies is to stay away from products that are not clean, natural or organic.
With artificially produced ingredients there is far more control and precision with what the individual substances are made of because it is developed in a lab.
Where the term “natural ingredients” is often about the source of the ingredients, the term “organic” is about whether the plants, which the ingredients are extracted from, are cultivated organically. According to Astma-Allergi Danmark (a Danish patient association focused on asthma and allergies), there is no correlation between how the ingredients are cultivated and their effect on our skin.
Allergenic perfume substances are the aromatic single substances which a skincare product can consist of. Perfume substances, ethereal oils, and plant extracts can have an allergenic effect.
In these cases, it is referred to as perfume allergies.
There are 26 potentially allergenic perfume substances, which according to requirements from the EU need to be disclosed on the label if they can be found in a specific product.
There does not exist a single substance in nature that cannot potentially cause an allergic reaction, and it is thus possible to get an allergic reaction from anything the body identifies as a foreign substance, including dust, nuts, pollen, fruit, plants, grass, and perfume substances.
However, the risk of an allergic reaction to the products from DÉBUT COPENHAGEN SKINCARE is very small.
If you suspect you are hypersensitive to one of our products or an ingredient in our products, we strongly suggest you take a patch test before further use of our products.
At DÉBUT COPENHAGEN SKINCARE we have chosen not to have facial scrubs (mechanical scrubs) of the simple reason that mechanical exfoliation does far more damage to the skin than what is the actual purpose with these products.
With scrubs like these, an abrasive agent, consisting of sugar, salt, coffee grounds or almond flakes, is used. Even though it may feel like it effectively cleanses the skin, this type of scrub is very tough on the skin. With a mechanical exfoliation, the skin is irritated more than you would expect. When this method is used, there is a risk of causing a lot of microscopical tears in the skin’s surface (epidermis), which at worst can do more harm than good.
Yes, all our products can be used by virtually anyone, regardless of age. However, we do not recommend that children under the age of 14 use certain products, as their skin does not have the same needs as teenagers and adults. This pleases: peeling, eye cream, night cream.
A serum is a concentrated skincare product which purpose is to go deeper into the skin and add active ingredients, which day and night creams cannot do.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) is a mild water-soluble fruit acid that acts exfoliating and removes dead skin cells in the top layer of the skin (epidermis), which gives a smoother and fresher skin.
AHA fruit acid stimulates cellular production and the skin’s own production of collagen and elastin, by which wrinkles are reduced.
Salicylic acid (BHA) is a very mild and effective irritant acid.
With antibacterial and fat-soluble properties, the BHA acid penetrates deeper into the skin’s layer (dermis), by which dead skin cells, sebum, pores, and dirt is dissolved and cleansed deeply. Thus BHA has an efficient effect on acne, enlarged pores, and blackheads.
Début comes from the French word “débuter”, which means “start” or “new beginning”. Thus the name DÉBUT COPENHAGEN, as it tells of our new beginnings and our company’s location.
It is not uncommon for pregnant and breastfeeding women to react to essential oils in skin care or perfume. Due to the many changes that occur in the body during pregnancy or breastfeeding, we recommend that you talk to your doctor before using products with essential oils or perfumes.
DÉBUT COPENHAGEN SKINCARE therefore leaves it up to the individual consumer to decide whether they want to use our products during their pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
A skintonic is often called a toner. There is no great difference between the two things or their effects.
